We offer good, clean family holiday accommodation in a character filled building that was built to resemble an old church. Perched on a hill top

just a few minutes north of Kaikoura on the main highway, The Artists Retreat is in a rural setting with stunning views over farm lands, from the mountains to the sea that will take your breath away. Wake up to bird songs including Tuis and Bellbirds and the distant sound of the ocean.

Many old buildings change use over the course of their lives, but not many "new" old buildings.
In January 2000 we commenced construction of The Artists Retreat as a gallery downstairs and living space upstairs. We incorporated as much recycled materials as we could. It had character from the beginning. We enjoyed living there for around 2 1/2 years until we moved into our new house and then upstairs became Karens Art Studio. From there she painted, started art lessons and eventually began to take weekend workshops. The little "old" building perched on the hill was moving with the times. In November 2008 we moved the gallery & studio into another "old" building on our property and The Artists Retreat was started a new life as holiday accommodation.

We have 2 double bedrooms, 1 downstairs and 1 upstairs.
Both with queen sized beds & stunning vistas of Kaikoura. There is also 1 bedroom downstairs with 2 single beds. We can accommodate 1 or 2 couples or mum dad and a couple of children. The Artists Retreat is completely self contained with kitchen, bathroom and laundry. We supply all bedding and linen. There is coffee, tea etc.  Kaikoura, with all the shops needed, including
3 supermarkets is only a short drive.
